The DUNK staff are often asked what are the most popular team names they've dealt with, and which have been the strangest.
For most, the practice of naming a team bases itself on adopting a name which sounds fierce or strong. For this reason, the most popular team names coming past our desks have been the Devils, Tigers, Sharks, Wizards, Panthers, Hawks and Wolves. From these, Tigers has by far been the most requested.
All seriousness aside, we also see our fair share oddities and humour. Two of our clients explain their decisions below ...
Brad Trigger (Anti-Max) - "We have a guy on our team called Maxi. We were trying to come up with names and Maxi was coming up with some shit ideas and one of the guys made some comment like 'man you never come up with anything good'. From there we somehow decided to go with Anti-Max ... just pulling the piss out of him really."
Liam Wilson (Thunder Chickens) - "The name came about when a few of us were sitting round having a few beers, and someone suggested it as a joke and it just sorta went from there. We knew it had to stick when a quote also came along with the name ... 'First we bring the THUNDER then you're gonna cop a dose of the original recipe!'"
Other noteable names have been Tenacious D, Order On The Court, and Right Meow.
